LAKEWOOD, Colo.-Dec. 26, 2012 – Christy Sports, a leading ski and snowboard retailer in Colorado, today, announced the 40 year anniversary of its flagship store in Steamboat Springs.
Christy Sports in the Gondola Square has been a fixture in the tightly knit ski community of Steamboat Springs for 40 years. This location has been around for almost as long as the resort itself, which celebrates its 50 year anniversary this season. “We are proud to be celebrating 40 years of service in the Gondola Square location, which is a remarkable feat given the ups and downs of the ski and snowboard industry,” said Keith Liefer, Chief Operating Officer for Christy Sports.
The Gondola Square location was, at one time, the flagship location for SportStalker, a ski and snowboard retail shop that merged with Christy Sports in 1996. “This shop has seen a lot of improvement since the early 90???s, and it has been a lot of fun to be a part of it,” said Chuck O’Connell, the Gondola Square store manager since the 1993/94 winter season. Once a single level store, the shop has expanded to include two levels making it the largest full service ski shop at the base of Steamboat. This large facility also enables the store to house the most comprehensive rental/demo fleet under one roof. They have constantly improved their equipment and technology, with the latest addition being a new Wintersteiger Discovery S fully automated tuning machine.
“Ski shops come and go in this valley, and this shop has stayed for 40 years. That’s no accident. It’s simple; we have great product, the most knowledgeable staff, and people like coming in to talk to us,??? remarked Mr. O???Connell. The reputation of excellent service was further bolstered after earning national recognition from one of the ski industry’s most notable publications. Christy Sports in Gondola Square was named as one of ‘North America’s Top Shops’ four times by Ski Magazine.
The high standard of excellence displayed at this shop benefits Christy Sports as a company. “The Gondola Square location produces exceptional employees, many of which go on to manage their own stores, or move into positions at our corporate office,” said Mr. Leifer. Obviously, the Christy Sports in Gondola Square has figured out the recipe for success in Steamboat. “It’s simple,” states Mr. O’Connell. “Our customers are our friends; we treat them well and they come back and see us whenever they need something ski related.”
