LAKEWOOD, Colo. – December 5, 2013 – Christy Sports is proud to announce its involvement with the inaugural International Women’s Ski Day by K2, an event which celebrates and promotes women who are passionate about skiing. More than just a fun day of skiing with like-minded women, this event will benefit local and national cancer research and treatment centers.
In celebration of female skiers worldwide, K2 is holding the first annual International Women’s Ski Day at Beaver Creek on December 14th, one of many events around the globe to recognize the day. This is a fun event for females of all ages and ability levels to come together and share their love for skiing, and will be celebrated worldwide. The festivities in Beaver Creek will kick off at the Christy Sports in the Beaver Creek Village for a meet and greet with skiing legends Kim Reichelm and Heather-Paul Featherman. Throughout the day, women are encouraged to return to Christy Sports where they can continue to get free K2 demo skis. After an optional lunch at Rocks Modern Grill and more skiing, there will be an après party at the Beaver Creek Lodge with complimentary beverages and appetizers as well as a silent auction from 3-5pm. Comfortable shoes and clothing are suggested for the auction.
The auction will feature a painting by Lisa Solberg, which was the inspiration for the artwork on the current line of women’s Super skis from K2. There will also be 3 pairs of women’s Super skis with bindings, casual wear from Neve, outerwear from Descente, goggles from Church and State Optics, as well as a host of other great items. 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the Shaw Cancer Center and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
For over a decade, the K2 Ski Alliance has been promoting women’s specific events which focus on camaraderie within the female ski community, but most importantly the organization focuses on skiing and fun. “Although promoted by K2, International Women’s Ski Day should be celebrated by all females, regardless of what brand they ski, where they live or their level of experience,” said Alyssa Clark, K2 Skis’ Marketing Coordinator and Women’s Ski Team Manager. “IWSD is simply a way for girls to get outside, ski and enjoy each other’s company.”
That passion for skiing was matched by Christy Sports, a local ski and snowboard shop which is hosting the morning activities as well as donating items for the silent auction. “I can’t imagine a better way to spend a day than spreading our love for skiing while benefiting cancer treatment and research. It really is a great cause, and we are excited to host the first ever international Women’s Ski Day,” said Jeff Evans, Regional Manager for Christy Sports.
